
Kano, Nigeria — Tragedy struck in Kano State after four Almajiri students reportedly lost their lives following a case of suspected food poisoning.
The deceased students were said to be under the care of Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya in the Kadage Sharifai area of Ungogo Local Government Area within the Kano Metropolitan Council.
According to a statement issued by the National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu, the affected students were rushed to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical treatment after allegedly consuming contaminated food.

However, despite efforts to save them, the students reportedly died at the hospital on the night of August 16, 2026.
The statement did not reveal the type of food consumed or the substance believed to have caused the poisoning, leaving many questions surrounding the incident unanswered.
Following approval from the district head and the police, the victims were laid to rest.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had not released an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, and investigations into the suspected food poisoning are yet to be made public.
