
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, identified as Sagir Muntari, for allegedly attempting to engage in ritual-related activities at the General Hospital in Funtua, Katsina State.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed the incident in an official statement issued on Saturday, noting that the suspect was apprehended following reports of suspicious movements within the hospital premises.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on May 9, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., after the hospital’s Chief Security Officer alerted authorities to the presence of an unidentified individual behaving suspiciously.
A staff member had reportedly observed the suspect wandering within the facility around 4:20 p.m., raising concerns.

Police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, leading to the swift arrest of the suspect.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to entering the hospital with the intent to obtain the womb of a newborn baby for use in suspected ritual and criminal activities.
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
The Command reiterated its strong stance against ritual-related crimes and other criminal activities, emphasizing its commitment to protecting lives, public institutions, and healthcare facilities across the state.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
