Security forces comprising operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command and the Nigerian Army have rescued 32 kidnapped victims during an operation in Maikujera Village, Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation followed a distress call alerting security authorities to the movement of heavily armed bandits who were reportedly transporting rustled livestock and kidnapped victims through the area.
According to the Sokoto State Police Command’s spokesperson, Ahmad Rufa’i, police tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Violent Crime Reaction Unit, were quickly deployed in collaboration with the Army Forward Operating Base.
The security forces reportedly blocked major escape routes before engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle.

The rescued victims were evacuated to safety and are currently receiving medical and psychological support ahead of their reunification with their families.
However, the police said four people were confirmed dead before the arrival of the security forces.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing bandits and strengthen security operations in the area.
