
The Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools within the council area following growing security concerns.
The directive was announced by the Chairman of the local government, Taiwo Adegoroye, who said the measure was necessary to protect students, teachers, and other education workers from potential security threats.
According to him, the decision was taken as a precautionary step aimed at safeguarding lives and property while authorities work with security agencies to address the situation.

Despite the closure, students currently participating in national examinations will be allowed access to their schools solely for the purpose of writing their examinations.
Adegoroye warned that any school management found violating the directive would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing regulations.
He also appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and discourage unnecessary movement during the period of the closure.
The council chairman assured residents that the local government is collaborating with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen surveillance and improve security across the area.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that the safety and well-being of residents remain a top priority. He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, noting that community support is crucial in tackling security challenges.
