Nigerian carrier, Air Peace Limited, has confirmed a disruption to its London (Gatwick)–Lagos flight operations following a bird strike involving one of its aircraft on Friday, May 1, 2026.
In an official update signed by the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, the company explained that the incident occurred during the international service, prompting immediate safety procedures in line with global aviation standards.
According to the airline, the affected aircraft was promptly removed from service after the bird strike was detected. It is currently undergoing a detailed technical inspection by its engineering team based in the United Kingdom to ensure it remains fully airworthy before returning to operations.
Bird strikes, which occur when aircraft collide with birds during takeoff, landing, or flight, are a known aviation risk worldwide. While often not catastrophic, such incidents can still cause delays, inspections, and temporary grounding of aircraft as a precautionary measure.
Air Peace stated that passenger safety remains its top priority and assured that all necessary checks are being carried out to prevent any operational risk.

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, noting that efforts are ongoing to minimize further disruptions across its flight network.
Reaffirming its commitment to safety, Air Peace stressed that it continues to operate under strict international aviation standards, even as it expands its long-haul services between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, the disruption comes shortly after public criticism from actress Funke Akindele, who raised concerns over passenger welfare and communication following the flight issue, alleging that affected travelers were not properly informed or supported during the incident.
Air Peace reiterated that it is working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible while prioritizing safety and regulatory compliance.
