The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Owo Local Government Area, Comrade Adetunji Adene, is currently receiving medical care after he was allegedly attacked by armed thugs at his residence in Ondo State.
Reports indicate that the incident happened shortly after Adene returned from an official assignment in Akure, the state capital. The attackers, said to be about 20 in number, reportedly stormed his home with the intention of assaulting him.
The operation was said to have been disrupted after neighbours and family members raised an alarm, forcing the attackers to flee the scene.
However, Adene sustained serious injuries during the attack and was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he is being treated.
Medical sources describe his condition as critical.
Reacting to the incident, the Ondo State leadership of NULGE condemned the attack, describing it as a disturbing escalation of violence targeting union officials and local government workers in Owo.

The union alleged that the assault appeared deliberate and politically motivated, warning that growing insecurity is affecting the morale of workers in the area.
It further stated that fear has spread among council staff, with many reportedly reluctant to resume duties due to safety concerns.
The union leadership called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently intervene and strengthen security in local government areas, particularly in Owo.
They also urged security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted.
Despite the attack, NULGE reiterated its commitment to lawful engagement, stressing that workers would not resort to violence but expect immediate protection from authorities.
As of press time, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
