The management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, has debunked reports identifying a young man who recently died in Owo as one of its students, describing the claim as false and misleading.
The deceased, identified as Audi Emmanuel, was reportedly found dead in his off-campus residence in the Emure-Ile area of Owo Local Government Area earlier this week.
Initial reports had alleged that the 20-year-old was a student of the institution, specifically from the Department of Computer Engineering.
However, in an official statement released by the school’s Senior Assistant Registrar for Public Relations and Protocol, Olumide Olugosi, the institution clarified that no such individual exists in its student records.

According to the statement, a thorough check across all departments, including the Continuing Education Centre, showed no registered student bearing the name Audi Emmanuel.
The institution further revealed that while a person with a similar name, Audu Emmanuel, was once offered admission into the polytechnic to study Computer Science during the 2024/2025 academic session, the individual did not complete the admission process and failed to participate in academic activities.
As such, he is not recognized as a bona fide student of the school.
The polytechnic emphasized that misrepresenting the deceased as its student could damage its reputation and misinform the public, urging media outlets and individuals to verify facts before publication.
While extending condolences to the family of the deceased, the institution also called for responsible reporting, especially in sensitive situations involving loss of life.
