A deadly bandit attack along the Gummi–Sokoto Road in Zamfara State has left one person dead, while security operatives successfully rescued 11 abducted travellers.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday when armed bandits ambushed a trailer transporting vegetables and passengers. According to reports, the attackers opened fire on the moving vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road.
During the attack, a passenger identified as Dan Fati Umar, a resident of Gidan Ganja in Bukuyum Local Government Area, was fatally shot. Another victim sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The assailants reportedly abducted several passengers from the scene. However, a swift response by police operatives and other security personnel led to the successful rescue of 11 victims, who have since been reunited with their families.

The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victim a speedy recovery.
He also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to provide credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
This development comes amid intensified efforts by security forces to combat banditry and terrorism across Nigeria’s North-West region.
