Students in Ogun State have expressed growing concern over a surge in insecurity and robbery incidents affecting the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, prompting urgent calls for intervention.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Council, has warned that the increasing cases of theft, harassment, and security breaches within and around the institution are creating fear among students and disrupting the academic environment.
In a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, Adimado Ahmed, the student body described the situation as alarming, noting that the persistent incidents threaten the peaceful atmosphere the institution is known for.
According to NANS, many students now feel unsafe, especially in hostels and surrounding areas, as reports of robbery continue to rise.
The association called on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), alongside the institution’s management, to take immediate and decisive action.
They recommended increased security patrols, improved surveillance systems in vulnerable areas, and stronger intelligence efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crimes.

NANS also urged residents of Ilaro to collaborate with authorities by reporting suspicious activities, emphasizing that maintaining security requires a collective effort from the entire community.
Students were advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary late-night movements, and promptly report any security concerns to relevant authorities.
Additionally, the association encouraged the use of digital tools such as security reporting apps to ensure faster response to incidents.
Reaffirming its commitment to student welfare, NANS assured that it would continue engaging stakeholders until lasting solutions are implemented and a safe learning environment is restored.
The development highlights the growing need for improved campus security across Nigerian institutions, as students continue to demand safer conditions for learning and daily life.
