The Nigerian Army has rescued five kidnap victims in Kogi State after terrorists abandoned them while fleeing ongoing military operations.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, the rescue followed intensified offensives including air strikes and ground assaults on terrorist hideouts in the state’s forest areas.
Troops from the Forward Operating Base in Oshokoshoko were deployed on a blocking mission along the Oshokoshoko-Adankolo route inside Adankolo Forest after an air interdiction mission targeted a known terrorist enclave.

During the operation, soldiers encountered the five victims who had been left behind by their captors as the group scattered to evade advancing troops.
Abdullahi said the victims regained their freedom due to sustained pressure on criminal elements in the area. Preliminary findings showed the kidnappers abandoned them when their camps came under heavy attack from the military.
The army said operations to clear terrorist camps and secure Kogi communities are ongoing.
