
Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered a cache of weapons during a coordinated military operation in Kogi State.
The operation, carried out by soldiers of the 12 Brigade, took place in the Adankolo Forest Reserve in Lokoja Local Government Area following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists within the region.
According to a statement released by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the troops strategically positioned themselves at a known crossing point used by the suspects in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026.
During the operation, the soldiers engaged the suspects in a firefight, resulting in the death of one terrorist, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries into the surrounding forest.

Items recovered from the scene include two AK-47 rifles, a locally fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Additional items recovered were a camouflage bandolier, a Honda motorcycle, three mobile phones, three power banks, Diclofenac medication, and a sum of ₦62,900.
The Army noted that the operation is part of ongoing efforts under Operation TIGER PAW II aimed at restricting terrorist activities and enhancing security across Kogi State and nearby regions. Troops are currently conducting follow-up operations to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
This development comes amid intensified military actions across the country, including recent operations in the North-East, where troops continue to confront insurgent groups.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace across all regions.
