
Suspected terrorists have invaded Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and abducting more than 30 others in a coordinated overnight attack.
The incident reportedly occurred around 2:25 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, when armed men stormed the community, causing panic among residents and travellers.
According to local sources, the attackers killed one resident during the invasion, while another person sustained injuries.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that two residents of the community a man and a woman were among those abducted, alongside several passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was intercepted by the gunmen as it passed through the area.

The attackers were said to have operated freely for several minutes without any resistance before whisking their victims away to an unknown location.
Residents described the attack as sudden and coordinated, noting that the gunmen targeted both households and commuters on the highway passing through the community.
The latest incident has intensified concerns over rising insecurity in Kogi State, particularly in rural communities and key transport routes linking neighbouring areas, including border communities with Kwara State.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the attack as of the time of filing this report.
