The Imota Local Council Development Area and GBEDU 100.1FM have reassured residents that Imota remains peaceful after a viral report claimed bandits attacked a primary school and killed two pupils.
The false report spread on Monday after it was aired during a live phone-in segment on GBEDU 100.1FM and shared widely on social media. It alleged that armed men invaded a public school in the community, sparking panic among parents and residents.
Reacting, Imota LCDA Chairman Benson Sunday Ayodele described the claim as “false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.” He said there was no verified report, official record, or credible security information confirming any such incident in the area.

Ayodele warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that similar false reports elsewhere have caused unnecessary panic. He urged residents to rely on official sources and security agencies for updates on public safety and to continue their daily activities without fear.
GBEDU 100.1FM also issued a public apology, admitting the report was broadcast without proper verification. The station said checks with the Nigeria Police, local government officials, and community leaders confirmed that Imota was calm and no attack had occurred.
The management accepted responsibility for the lapse and reaffirmed its commitment to accurate and responsible journalism.
