The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Chibuzor Mogbo, over his alleged involvement in the theft of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at over N1 billion, while also uncovering a separate case involving a staged kidnapping plot.
According to the police, Mogbo was apprehended following a complaint lodged by MEA Energy, which accused him and his accomplices of conspiracy and large-scale fuel theft amounting to N1,028,825,520.
After a 12-day intelligence-driven investigation, operatives tracked and arrested the suspect in Delta State, where he had fled to evade capture.
Police authorities disclosed that Mogbo confessed to the crime and assisted investigators in recovering cash and property linked to the illegal operation, valued at over N300,000.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend his alleged accomplice, Jessica Anyincha, who remains at large.
In a related development, the command also uncovered a staged kidnapping scheme involving one Adamu Abdullahi, a scrap iron dealer.
The case initially surfaced on May 19, 2026, when Abdullahi’s brother reported him missing.
A disturbing video later emerged, showing Abdullahi being beaten and threatened by supposed abductors demanding a ransom of N1.5 million from his employer.

Under interrogation, Abdullahi confessed that the kidnapping was staged in collaboration with accomplices identified as Adelowo Olalekan Akorede, Yusuf Lukman, and another suspect still at large.
The group allegedly intended to defraud his employer, Lawal Abubakar.
Further findings revealed that Abdullahi had earlier diverted N490,000 entrusted to him for business purposes.
The stolen funds were recovered, and the location used to film the fake kidnapping video was identified during the investigation.
Additionally, police operatives responded to a distress call on May 25, 2026, in the Bariga area of Lagos, where two suspects were caught attempting to steal a Toyota Sienna vehicle. The suspects, Achepa Solomon and Ihezie Francis, were arrested at the scene.
Subsequent investigations led to the recovery of another vehicle, a Honda i-VTEC saloon car with registration number ABC 775 LD, believed to be connected to the suspects.
All individuals involved are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid law enforcement efforts in combating crime across the state.
