A security officer identified as Umar, an indigene of Zuru in Kebbi State, has appealed to Nigerians and other well-meaning individuals to help secure his release after he was allegedly abducted by bandits while travelling to Abuja.
Umar, who said he works with the Abuja Command of a security agency, made the appeal in a video showing him in captivity.
In the video, a rifle was reportedly placed against his neck while one of the armed abductors pointed a gun at his head.
Speaking in Hausa, Umar said he was kidnapped along the Zuru-to-Abuja route while travelling to the Federal Capital Territory.
He disclosed that his family had sold all the properties they owned in an attempt to raise the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
However, Umar said the money raised was still insufficient to meet the ransom demand, leaving him in captivity.
He pleaded with Nigerians, including individuals and organisations capable of assisting, to intervene and help save his life.
Umar repeatedly appealed for help, apparently fearing for his safety as he remained in the custody of his abductors.
The incident adds to growing concerns over kidnapping and bandit attacks along major routes connecting communities in northwestern Nigeria with the Federal Capital Territory.
