The Nigerian military has carried out a precision airstrike on a suspected gathering of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Yaganari, Borno State, as part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
The strike was executed by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI in the early hours of July 17, following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance of terrorist movements in the area.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations initially tracked four suspected fighters moving within Yaganari.
Two of them reportedly led operatives to another location where about 12 suspected ISWAP members had assembled.
After confirming the target and meeting all operational requirements, military forces launched a precision strike around 12:32 a.m., successfully hitting the location.

Preliminary battle damage assessments indicate that an unspecified number of the suspected fighters were neutralised, while others fled in different directions.
Surveillance aircraft reportedly remained over the area to monitor movements and identify possible follow-up targets.
Military authorities described the operation as part of a broader intelligence-driven strategy aimed at disrupting terrorist activities, weakening ISWAP’s operational capacity, and preventing regrouping.
The latest strike forms part of ongoing air campaigns under Operation HADIN KAI, targeting terrorist hideouts, logistics bases, and movement routes across Borno State to support ground troops in the region.
