A tragic shooting incident has claimed the life of a student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), after suspected gunmen opened fire near the institution’s main gate at Ugbowo.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, involved yet-to-be-identified assailants who reportedly attacked the victim at close range while he was driving out of the campus in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
According to eyewitness accounts, the student had just completed an examination in the Political Science Department about an hour before the attack.
The gunmen, described as masked, reportedly fled the scene immediately after carrying out the shooting.
Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries during the attack and were promptly rushed to the University of Benin Health Centre for medical attention.
