
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command, in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), have arrested 12 suspected cultists in a coordinated operation in Auchi, Edo North.
The arrest, which took place on May 7, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspects had mobilised from Okpella to launch attacks on rival groups.
Acting swiftly, security operatives intercepted the group at Amazing Grace Estate, Elele Community, Uzairue.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, preliminary investigations revealed that seven of the suspects confessed to involvement in cult-related activities.
Some were identified as members of notorious confraternities, including the Aye and Vikings groups.

Items recovered during the operation include a grey Mercedes-Benz Jeep allegedly linked to an individual currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the оперативes for their prompt response and professionalism.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to intensifying its crackdown on cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
All suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Cultism Unit for further investigation and are expected to be prosecuted upon conclusion of the inquiry.
The Police Command also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, urging them to desist or leave the state, emphasizing its readiness to take decisive action against threats to public peace and security.
