Troops of the 162 Amphibious Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled an attempted attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mandaragirau, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, the insurgents launched a coordinated attack on the military base from two different directions at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.
He explained that troops detected the advancing terrorists through an early warning and surveillance system, prompting the immediate deployment of a combat team to intercept one of the attacking groups.
A fierce gun battle followed, during which the troops overpowered the insurgents and successfully neutralised the threat on one front.
Captain Goni added that another group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate the camp by bypassing the ambush team. However, they were met with superior firepower and were also forced to retreat.
