
The Edo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of weapons and stolen items in Auchi.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, the operation was triggered by credible intelligence received in the early hours of May 2, 2026.
The report indicated that a four-man robbery gang had attacked the residence of a victim in the Comprehensive Secondary School area of Auchi.
Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer deployed a patrol team to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the suspects fled in different directions, abandoning a bag containing a locally made cut-to-size firearm, a live cartridge, and a mobile phone.
Following the initial response, police launched a coordinated manhunt, which led to the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as Aliu Mustafa, later that same morning.

Further investigations resulted in the recovery of additional stolen items, including two mobile phones, a wristwatch, and a bag, all confirmed to belong to the victim.
The suspect remains in police custody and is currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending other members of the gang who are still at large.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, commended the team for their swift response and professionalism.
He also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining security across the state, urging the public to continue providing timely and useful information to support law enforcement efforts.
