Students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Ifetedo Campus, staged a protest on Thursday following the tragic death of a final-year student, Grace Osunlakin, sparking widespread outrage over alleged medical negligence.
Osunlakin, a 400-level student of Criminology and Security Studies, reportedly developed health complications on Wednesday evening.
However, concerns have been raised by students who claim that she did not receive prompt medical attention when her condition worsened.
According to eyewitness accounts, the university’s medical facility had already closed by the time her health deteriorated, leaving her without immediate care.
Some protesting students alleged that the facility typically shuts down operations by 6:00 p.m., a situation they believe contributed to the unfortunate outcome.

One student, who spoke anonymously to avoid victimisation, stated that many students are deeply dissatisfied with how the situation was handled.
The protest, they said, was driven by a collective demand for accountability and urgent reforms in the campus healthcare system.
In response, the university management, through its Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation has commenced.
The statement emphasized that the institution is taking the matter seriously and pledged that any staff found guilty of negligence or professional misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with existing regulations.
Management also extended condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the university community, while urging students and stakeholders to remain calm and avoid actions that could disrupt the investigative process.
Following the protest, the university announced the indefinite closure of the Ifetedo Campus.
The decision, according to the management, is aimed at easing tensions among students and allowing for a comprehensive review of the campus’s healthcare services, medical personnel, and other welfare-related facilities.
The university reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students and promised to implement necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
