The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 42 suspects linked to various criminal activities across Abuja, including kidnapping, traffic robbery, housebreaking, and traffic-related offences.
Speaking during a press briefing at the command headquarters on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and ensure the safety of residents in the nation’s capital.
According to the police commissioner, the command responded swiftly to a distress call received on August 14, 2026, regarding the suspected abduction of three residents from the Nyanya area of the FCT.
He explained that officers from the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit were immediately deployed to investigate the incident. Preliminary findings revealed that the victims had been taken to New Nyanya in neighbouring Nasarawa State, where they were held captive.
Acting on credible intelligence provided by a resident, police operatives tracked down and arrested two suspects identified as Godwin Afekhide and Aaron Ogbu. The suspects were reportedly directly involved in the kidnapping.
The police successfully rescued all three victims unharmed and reunited them with their families.
In a separate operation, the command arrested 10 suspected traffic robbers accused of disguising themselves as hawkers to rob motorists along busy roads and traffic congestion points within the city.
The suspects were identified as Umar Salihu, Yusuf Isah, Aliyu Hamza, Abubakar Naziru, Muhammed Musa, Yagugu Mohammed, Suwidi Jibril, Kasimu Taraba, Abubakar Sani, and Aminu Umar.

CP Sanusi noted that the operation followed several complaints from residents, prompting him to direct divisional police officers within the city centre to remove criminal elements operating under the guise of street hawking.
The police command also arrested 20 motorists for various traffic offences, particularly driving against traffic, commonly referred to as “one-way” driving.
The commissioner stated that all 20 offenders had been immediately charged in court, adding that the enforcement operation would continue until Abuja’s roads become safer for all users.
Additionally, six suspected members of a criminal gang known for breaking into homes at night, stealing valuables, and attacking residents were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Sanusi Yusuf, Zakari Mohammed, Sani Adamu, Abdulwasi Yahuza, Abdullahi Abah, and Aliyu Mohammed.
CP Sanusi assured residents that all suspects currently remain in police custody and would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining operations aimed at tackling criminal activities and improving security across the Federal Capital Territory.
