
At least nine people have lost their lives while seven others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident along the Abuja-Lokoja Highway near Dabi in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The crash occurred on Wednesday evening and involved an 18-seater commercial bus and a truck. According to eyewitnesses, the bus was travelling from Gwagwalada towards Kwali when the driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming truck.
The impact of the collision reportedly killed the bus driver and eight passengers instantly, while seven other occupants suffered varying degrees of injuries.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and evacuated the injured victims to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Confirming the incident, the FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Iliyasu Tijjani, said nine people died in the crash. He attributed the accident to excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking by the driver of the commercial bus.
He added that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, while the injured victims continue to receive treatment.
The FRSC commander urged motorists to avoid speeding and reckless overtaking, stressing that adherence to traffic regulations remains essential to preventing avoidable road crashes and saving lives on Nigerian highways.
