A farmer, identified as Hammasumo Ali, has lost his left hand following a violent clash with a herdsman in the Nyashika area of Gumti Ward, Toungo Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary of Information of Toungo Local Government Area, Daniel Pogu Toungo.
According to the statement, the confrontation occurred after Ali allegedly attempted to stop a herdsman from allowing his cattle to enter his farm and graze on his crops.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the herdsman allegedly attacked the farmer with a machete.
Ali sustained severe injuries in the attack, resulting in the loss of his left hand. He was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Following the incident, the Chairman of Toungo Local Government Area, Hajiya Hauwa Guruja, visited the injured farmer at the hospital to sympathise with him over his condition.
Guruja reportedly appealed to residents of the community to remain calm and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions.

She urged residents to respect one another’s rights and settle disputes through dialogue, stressing the need for peace to prevent further violence in the area.
The incident has renewed concerns over disputes between farmers and herders, particularly those arising from cattle grazing on farmlands.
Authorities are expected to work with community stakeholders to prevent a recurrence of the incident and maintain peace in the affected community.
