
Residents of Eda Oniyo in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State have staged a protest over the continued abduction of 16 worshippers kidnapped from a Christ Apostolic Church, despite the payment of ₦10.5 million ransom.
The victims were abducted on April 28, 2026, when armed gunmen invaded an evening church service, killing the presiding pastor and whisking away several congregants.
According to community members, the kidnappers initially demanded ₦1 billion, later reduced their demand to ₦150 million and then ₦50 million.
In a desperate effort to secure the victims’ release, the community reportedly raised ₦10.5 million alongside food items and other supplies requested by the abductors.
However, despite meeting these demands, the 16 victims mostly women, including children and an elderly woman remain in captivity for over 36 days.

Residents say the kidnappers have continued to make fresh financial demands.
During the protest, community members carried placards appealing to the Federal Government, Ekiti State Government, and security agencies for urgent intervention.
They also called for stronger security presence in the area, including the establishment of a functional police division, deployment of forest guards, and a possible military base along the Ekiti–Kwara border.
Residents described the ordeal as traumatic, noting that families have been left in distress as they continue to await the safe return of their loved ones.
The community has urged authorities to intensify rescue operations and take decisive action to curb rising cases of abductions in the region.
