A gas-laden Toyota Sienna carrying 23 gas cylinders and six drums of carbide lost control after a brake failure and crashed into three vehicles on Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The accident, which occurred around 5pm on Wednesday near the Stadium Complex Gate, involved a Toyota Avensis, a commercial tricycle and a motorcycle.
The Sienna driver sustained injuries in the crash. The vehicle reportedly crossed the road divider, overturned and collided with the other vehicles.
The presence of the gas cylinders, carbide and leaking petroleum sparked panic among motorists and residents, raising fears of a possible fire outbreak.

The Kwara State Fire Service quickly responded, secured the scene and managed the hazardous materials and fuel leakage. Motorists were temporarily advised to avoid the affected section while emergency operations were ongoing.
The fire service later confirmed that the road had been made safe and motorable, urging motorists to proceed with caution.
The agency also advised operators transporting hazardous materials to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and roadworthy before embarking on journeys.
