A claim circulating on social media that Nigeria has recorded 22 cases of Ebola virus disease in Abuja is false, according to a fact-check.
The claim was made by social media content creator Blessing Martin in a video lasting five minutes and 18 seconds. She alleged that the Federal Government had announced 22 Ebola cases in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Martin also suggested that the reported cases might be connected to plans to restrict political gatherings ahead of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign in Abuja.
The video, which attracted hundreds of reactions, shares and comments, generated discussions among social media users, with some expressing suspicion about the government’s intentions.
However, information from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare contradicted the claim.

According to a statement published by the ministry on October 20, 2026, Nigeria had confirmed one case of Ebola disease in the FCT following laboratory testing.
A situation report released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on the same date also recorded one confirmed case of Ebola disease, identified as the Bundibugyo species, in the FCT.
The findings show that the claim of 22 confirmed Ebola cases in Abuja was inaccurate.
The fact-check therefore concluded that there was no evidence supporting the social media creator’s assertion that the Federal Government had recorded 22 cases in the nation’s capital.
