
Police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory have rescued a man identified as Bashir Usman from an angry mob who allegedly attempted to lynch him over claims that he tried to abduct a five-year-old child.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 4 in Angwan Lado, Kuje Area Council, Abuja.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command received a distress call about an unidentified man being assaulted by a mob following an alleged child abduction attempt.
She said officers from the Kuje Division were immediately deployed to the scene and rescued Usman before the mob could kill him.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly assaulted after he was accused of attempting to abduct the five-year-old girl in front of her residence.

Usman has been placed in protective custody while detectives continue investigating the allegation. The police said the investigation would also determine whether he had any accomplices or links to other activities.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
He said jungle justice is a criminal act that could result in the death of an accused person and urged residents to report suspected crimes to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.
