Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has opened up on his decision to reject a highly lucrative transfer offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal SFC, saying the choice was driven by family values, ambition, and loyalty to Manchester United during a challenging period for the club.
Reports indicate that United were open to letting the Portuguese midfielder leave at the end of last season when Al Hilal tabled a massive financial package for his signature.
However, after discussions with his family, Fernandes opted to remain at Old Trafford.
Speaking about the decision, Fernandes explained that while the financial terms were attractive, his priorities were rooted in personal fulfilment and career ambition rather than wealth.
He noted that his family played a key role in helping him reflect on what he had already achieved in football and what he still hoped to accomplish.
A conversation with his wife, in particular, helped shape his final decision, as she encouraged him to consider whether he had already fulfilled his dreams and whether leaving at such a difficult moment aligned with his values.

Fernandes also emphasized his sense of responsibility to Manchester United, who endured a difficult campaign last season.
He stated that leaving during a period of struggle did not feel right, as he still believes he has more to contribute to the club’s revival.
Since joining Manchester United in 2020, Fernandes has been a key figure for the club, registering over 100 goals and playing more than 300 matches.
Despite winning domestic trophies, he continues to chase major honours such as the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
With his contract running into its final stretch, speculation about his long-term future remains, but Fernandes insists his focus is firmly on success at Old Trafford.
