The Abia State Police Command has rescued a medical doctor who was abducted by suspected kidnappers and arrested four people allegedly linked to the crime.
The doctor, identified as Ikenna Ilo, was kidnapped on August 19, 2026. According to the police, he was rescued unharmed following actionable intelligence that helped operatives trace the vehicle used by the kidnappers towards Imo State.
The operation reportedly involved collaboration between the Abia and Imo State Police Commands.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed the development on Friday in Umuahia while briefing journalists on the achievements of the command since he assumed office.
He said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident. Among those arrested is a Point of Sale, PoS, operator who allegedly received ransom money from the victim’s family.
Three other suspects were reportedly involved in dismantling the tracker installed in the doctor’s vehicle, allegedly to prevent security operatives from tracing it.
The police commissioner said investigations are ongoing, with efforts being intensified to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network.

Afolabi also disclosed that the command had arrested several other suspected criminals and recovered firearms, ammunition and stolen items during operations across the state.
He added that suspects linked to defilement, vandalism and other criminal activities had also been apprehended as part of the command’s ongoing efforts to tackle crime in Abia State.
