
Kebbi State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a man whose wife died after being shot with a locally made firearm in Bagudo Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on June 9 in Geza Village and has been described by police as an accidental discharge.
According to police sources cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, the victim, 25-year-old Sa’ima Sani, sustained fatal injuries when a Dane gun she was carrying discharged.
Preliminary findings show her husband, Auwalu Hassan, had asked her to bring the loaded weapon from inside their home to the rear of the house where he was. The gun went off as she moved it, hitting her in the stomach and left hand.

Officers from the Bagudo Divisional Police Headquarters responded to the report and rushed Sa’ima to the General Hospital in Bagudo.
She was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment. The body was photographed, processed, and released to the family for burial.
Police said the husband fled the area immediately after the shooting and efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him. Investigators are working to determine whether criminal negligence played a role in the incident.
The command urged residents to observe proper firearm safety and ensure weapons are stored securely to prevent similar tragedies.
