Singer Peter Okoye has pushed back against calls for Nigerian celebrities to single-handedly address the country’s challenges. The P-Square star, popularly known as Mr P, said meaningful change requires collective action from all Nigerians, not just public figures.
Speaking in a recent interview with Wozabia FM Lagos, Okoye responded to growing pressure on entertainers to speak out against bad governance, insecurity, and economic hardship. He stressed that while celebrities have a platform, they lack the capacity to resolve national issues alone.
“I apologise for saying I won’t concern myself with Nigeria’s challenges anymore,” he said. “I may have security agencies guiding me but not everyone can afford it. This is our country, it is only us who can bring positive changes.”

Okoye argued that directing anger at celebrities misses the point. “However, celebrities alone can’t save Nigeria. All those clamouring for celebrities to speak up against bad governance should redirect their energy. It is not a matter of celebrities. This government has failed us all. But together, we can bring the desired change,” he stated.
His comments come amid ongoing public frustration over the country’s economic and security situation, with many citizens urging high-profile figures to use their influence to demand accountability.
