The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected impostor who allegedly posed as a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) sergeant to defraud a Point of Sale (POS) operator in Ibadan.
The suspect, identified as Yusuf Abdullahi, was apprehended in the Iwo Road area while reportedly dressed in military camouflage and falsely presenting himself as a serving Air Force personnel.
According to security sources, the arrest followed a formal complaint lodged at the Iyaganku Police Division by a POS operator, Mrs. Ayedun Abisola Adedoyin, a resident of the Oke-Padre area of the city.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 1 at Ogunpa Market, where the suspect allegedly purchased items, including a cooking gas regulator and an air freshener.
He is said to have convinced the POS operator to hand over the sum of N150,000 in cash, claiming he would transfer the total amount electronically along with payment for the goods.

After receiving both the cash and the items, the suspect allegedly fled without completing the transaction.
Police investigations led to his arrest on June 9 at about 1:40 p.m., during which he was still reportedly dressed in military attire.
Further findings revealed that the suspect had previously been arrested by the same division over a similar offence and was handed over to the Nigerian Air Force Base in Akobo, Ibadan, for disciplinary action.
To verify his identity, police detectives contacted a serving NAF officer, Flight Lieutenant Amuda, currently deployed in Adamawa State.
The officer confirmed that Abdullahi is not a member of the Nigerian Air Force.
The Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the suspect’s activities and determine whether more victims were affected.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution when dealing with individuals claiming to be security personnel.
