Wayne Rooney has warned Manchester United fans not to expect a Premier League title challenge next season, despite the club’s strong finish under Michael Carrick.
The former United striker said it would be difficult for the Red Devils to compete for both the league and Champions League, even with Carrick set to continue as manager on a long-term deal.
“We all want them to win the league, but you have to be realistic and say, are they going to win the league? Are they going to win the Champions League? I think it’s going to be very difficult, but trying to get an improvement,” Rooney said.

United confirmed Carrick’s stay after he led the team to 12 wins in 17 matches following his appointment. The run saw the club climb to third place and secure Champions League qualification for next season.
While the improvement under Carrick has raised optimism, Rooney believes more work is needed before United can be considered genuine title contenders.
