The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has repatriated a 13-year-old girl from Burkina Faso to her home state, Ogun, after she was allegedly trafficked and subjected to sexual exploitation.
The victim was returned to Abeokuta, Ogun State, following efforts by the agency to secure her rescue and repatriation.
According to NAPTIP, the girl was allegedly taken out of Nigeria by her 26-year-old tailoring employer under circumstances now being investigated by authorities.
The agency said the minor was allegedly subjected to sexual exploitation for more than six months while in Burkina Faso.
The principal suspect in the case has reportedly been arrested and is expected to face prosecution as investigations continue.

NAPTIP reiterated its commitment to tackling human trafficking and protecting vulnerable children from exploitation, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
The agency also stressed the need for parents and guardians to carefully monitor arrangements involving children travelling or being taken away for employment, training, education or other opportunities.
The case has again highlighted the dangers faced by minors who are deceived or unlawfully moved across borders with promises of better opportunities.
