The Edo State Police Command has rescued nine victims who were abducted in separate incidents along the Benin–Lagos Expressway and nearby forest areas.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, noting that the operation was carried out through coordinated tactical efforts, including intelligence gathering, aerial surveillance, and extensive bush-combing.
According to the police, the successful rescue followed the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, who ordered the immediate deployment of security operatives to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.

The statement explained that sustained pressure from security forces forced the abductors to abandon their captives, leading to the safe recovery of all victims.
The rescued individuals were subsequently given medical attention and reunited with their families.
In a related development, the Command also confirmed the rescue of four additional victims who had earlier been kidnapped and held in captivity within the Imiegba forest in Agenebode.
This brought the total number of rescued victims to nine.
The incident is linked to an earlier attack on a commercial bus along the Lagos–Benin Expressway in the Iguobazuwa axis, where armed men reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, killing the driver and abducting passengers.
Police authorities assured residents and road users that security has been intensified along the expressway and surrounding areas to prevent further criminal activities and ensure the safety of commuters.
