
Nigerian midfielder Emmanuel King Okoye, 25, died Wednesday after sustaining a head injury during a match in Nigeria, according to reports from Italian sports outlets.
Okoye, who played in Italy’s amateur leagues for clubs including Palmese, Acri and Canicattini Calcio, was in Nigeria visiting family. He collapsed on the pitch after a collision and was taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff were unable to revive him.

Canicattini Calcio paid tribute to Okoye, describing him as a player known for “dedication, integrity, and love for the game.”
Okoye’s death follows the recent death of former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo, who also died after an incident during a match last week.
