No fewer than 32 persons have reportedly lost their lives, while over 200 residents have been displaced following a prolonged wave of violent clashes between farmers and herders in Nasarawa State.
The crisis, which began on April 3, 2026, in Odeni Gida Electoral Ward of Nasarawa Local Government Area, has spread across several communities, including Udege, Angwan Mada, Apura Adagba, Udege Kasa, Akyewa, and Angwan Ogiri.
Sources indicate that the sustained violence has left many others injured or missing, with widespread destruction of homes, farmlands, vehicles, motorcycles, food supplies, and economic trees valued at millions of naira.
The situation was brought to the attention of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly during plenary, where the lawmaker representing Udege/Loko Constituency, Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, raised the matter as one of urgent public importance.
According to him, the continuous attacks have crippled farming activities in the area, forcing many residents to flee their homes and seek shelter in makeshift camps.
“For months now, communities in Odeni Gida have been under siege. Lives have been lost, properties destroyed, and families displaced, leaving the people in fear and uncertainty,” he stated.

He further warned that the insecurity has prevented farmers from accessing their lands, posing a serious threat to food production and livelihoods in the affected communities.
Kana also highlighted recent deadly incidents, including the killing of a resident returning from his farm in late June and another fatal attack on a farmer in early July, stressing that the crisis could escalate if urgent action is not taken.
The lawmaker called on security agencies to intensify operations in the affected areas to restore peace and protect lives and property.
He also appealed to relevant emergency agencies to provide immediate humanitarian support, including food, medical aid, and temporary shelter for displaced persons.
In response, the Assembly urged the state government to deploy additional security personnel to the troubled communities and strengthen ongoing efforts to curb the violence.
Lawmakers also called on traditional rulers and community leaders to initiate dialogue and reconciliation processes aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict.
The Speaker of the House described the situation as deeply concerning and emphasized the need for coordinated intervention to prevent further loss of lives and ensure lasting peace in the region.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as authorities work to restore normalcy.
