Spain’s World Cup-winning team was welcomed by hundreds of thousands of jubilant supporters on Monday as the country celebrated its FIFA World Cup 2026 triumph with a grand trophy parade through the streets of Madrid.
The squad, led by head coach Luis de la Fuente, returned to the Spanish capital before meeting King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia at the Zarzuela Palace. The players later boarded an open-top bus, carrying the World Cup trophy through Madrid as fans cheered, waved Spanish flags, and sang in celebration.
Supporters had gathered from the early hours of the day at major locations, including Plaza de Cibeles and Puerta del Sol, to welcome the newly crowned world champions. The celebrations came after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in Sunday’s World Cup final in New Jersey, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal.
The victory secured Spain’s second FIFA men’s World Cup title and made the country the first nation to simultaneously hold both the men’s and women’s World Cup trophies, following the women’s triumph in 2023.

Congratulatory messages poured in from leaders of the tournament’s three host nations, including U.S. President Donald Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Across Spain, celebrations continued into Monday as thousands of fans filled streets, bars, and public squares, with singing, dancing, and fireworks marking the historic achievement.
However, the celebrations were marred by tragedy after local authorities confirmed that a 13-year-old boy died in Salamanca when a fountain he had climbed with friends during the celebrations collapsed.
Despite the incident, Spain’s World Cup victory was celebrated nationwide, with the trophy parade bringing together thousands of supporters to honour the team’s remarkable achievement.
