Spain have climbed to the summit of world football following their triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, securing the number one spot in the latest FIFA rankings.
La Roja sealed their rise with a narrow 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the final, with Ferran Torres netting the decisive goal to hand Spain their second World Cup title.
The win pushed Spain to 1,995.88 ranking points, ending Argentina’s reign at the top.
Argentina now sit second with 1,970.37 points, while France remain third despite falling short in the latter stages of the tournament. England hold fourth position, and Brazil complete the top five after moving up one place.

In Africa, Morocco continue to lead the continent and now rank sixth globally after an impressive World Cup campaign. Egypt also surged in the rankings, overtaking Nigeria by reaching the Round of 16.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are ranked 26th in the world. While they maintained their global position, they have dropped to fourth in Africa following Egypt’s rise.
Elsewhere, Norway recorded one of the biggest jumps into the top 20 after a standout tournament performance that included a shock victory over Brazil.
Portugal, Belgium, and the Netherlands occupy seventh to ninth positions, while Mexico break into the top ten.
Germany and Italy remain outside the top ten, ranked 12th and 15th respectively.
The next FIFA rankings update is scheduled for October 7, 2026.
