Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a couple in Edo State for allegedly running a large-scale drug warehouse in Benin City, recovering over 412 kilograms of illicit substances during the operation.
The Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed that the raid was carried out at a residential building along Sapele Road following credible intelligence.
According to him, the suspects, identified as Christian Chukwuka, 32, and his wife, Nwanneka Christian, 33, both natives of Ndokwa in Delta State, were apprehended at the scene.
Ofoyeju revealed that operatives seized 22 bags of skunk weighing 219.5 kilograms, alongside compressed blocks of “Canadian Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 192.67 kilograms.

He described the operation as one of the most significant drug busts recorded by the command in recent times, highlighting the growing concern over drug trafficking activities within the state.
The NDLEA boss reiterated the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and safeguarding communities from the dangers of illicit substances. He added that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion.
In a statement following his arrest, Chukwuka attributed his involvement in the illegal trade to unemployment and financial hardship, noting that he was introduced to the business by a friend after struggling to secure a job.
He also appealed for leniency, stating that he and his wife have a set of twins and promising to turn a new leaf if given another opportunity.
The NDLEA has assured the public of its continued efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
