
Morocco became the first African nation to secure qualification for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after battling to a 4-2 victory over Haiti in their final group-stage match.
The Atlas Lions endured a difficult start as Haiti took an early lead through an own goal by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. Morocco responded swiftly, with Achraf Hakimi finding the equaliser to bring his side back into the contest.
Haiti, however, refused to back down and regained the lead through Wilson Isidor, putting pressure on the North African side. Morocco once again responded positively, with Ismael Saibari scoring before halftime to level the scores at 2-2.

The victory ensured Morocco’s progression to the knockout stage, making them the first African team to book a place in the Round of 32 of the expanded 2026 World Cup.
In the other Group C fixture, Brazil defeated Scotland 3-0 to finish top of the group, while Morocco advanced as runners-up. The achievement marks another significant milestone for Moroccan football as the Atlas Lions continue to establish themselves among the world’s leading national teams.
