
Three Nigerian soldiers who lost their lives in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion during a security operation in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State have been laid to rest.
The soldiers were reportedly killed after an IED, believed to have been planted by bandits, detonated beneath their vehicle in Bargaja community while they were responding to a distress call from residents following an attack on the area.
The incident has sparked grief among military personnel, families of the deceased, and residents of affected communities, with many mourning the loss of the troops who died while carrying out their duties.
A funeral prayer was held at Giginya Barracks in Sokoto, attended by government officials, military officers, and relatives of the fallen soldiers. Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir, represented Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the ceremony.

Speaking during the funeral, Gobir expressed condolences to the Nigerian Army and the bereaved families, describing the deceased soldiers as heroes who paid the ultimate price in the defence of their country.
He said the troops lost their lives while protecting communities from criminal elements and prayed for the repose of their souls, asking God to grant their families the strength to bear the loss.
The deputy governor also reaffirmed the Sokoto State Government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in the fight against banditry and other forms of insecurity across the state.
Following the funeral, Gobir visited injured security personnel and other victims receiving treatment at a hospital, assuring them of the government’s continued support and assistance.
The attack highlights the persistent security challenges facing communities in parts of northern Nigeria, where security forces continue operations against bandit groups and other armed criminals.
