Tunisia have moved swiftly to appoint experienced tactician Hervé Renard as their new head coach following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi, just one game into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Lamouchi was relieved of his duties hours after Tunisia suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat to Sweden in their opening Group F match on Monday, a result that triggered immediate changes within the team’s technical setup.
Renard, 57, is expected to arrive in Mexico on Tuesday, where he will immediately take charge of training ahead of Tunisia’s next group fixture as they attempt to revive their struggling World Cup campaign.
The French coach brings a wealth of international experience, having previously managed Morocco at the 2018 World Cup, where he earned global praise for their performances.

He also led Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup, famously guiding them to a historic victory over eventual champions Argentina.
Renard’s résumé also includes spells with Zambia, whom he led to an Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2012, and Ivory Coast, whom he guided to continental success in 2015.
More recently, he coached the France women’s national team at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup before his departure from Saudi Arabia in April.
Tunisia will now hope the arrival of the highly respected coach can stabilize their campaign and restore confidence after a difficult start to the tournament.
