A farmer identified as Mallam Umaru Ibrahim has reportedly been killed by suspected bandits after being abducted from his farmland in Kidandan community, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to family sources, Ibrahim was kidnapped on Monday alongside other farmers while working on his farm in the community, which shares a border with Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, an area frequently affected by insecurity.
A relative of the deceased, Muhammadu Sani, said the victim was allegedly held captive by a group of bandits said to be among those previously described as “repentant” under ongoing peace initiatives in the state.

Sani disclosed that Ibrahim’s body was recovered on Wednesday morning in a bush area known as Sidi. Family members later buried the deceased according to Islamic rites.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns among residents over the safety of communities in the Giwa–Birnin Gwari axis despite government-backed dialogue and reconciliation efforts aimed at reducing attacks by armed groups.
The family also alleged that community members have been discouraged from publicising incidents of kidnappings and killings on social media. According to Sani, residents feel abandoned as attacks continue in the area.
He further claimed that another victim, identified as Abba Danlami, was kidnapped by the same group but managed to escape. Danlami is said to possess details about the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The latest incident has renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect farming communities and tackle persistent banditry across parts of Kaduna State.
