
Tragedy struck in Rivers State as two female students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and a commercial motorcyclist lost their lives in a fatal road accident.
The incident occurred on Wednesday along the busy Choba Bridge axis of the East–West Road in Port Harcourt.
According to eyewitness reports, the students were returning home after writing their WAEC examinations at Odoha Community Secondary School in Emohua Local Government Area when the motorcycles conveying them collided with a moving truck.
Sources confirmed that the accident claimed the lives of three victims the two students and the okada rider on the spot.
“Three people died: one okada rider and two female WAEC candidates. They had just finished their exams and were heading home when the crash happened,” an eyewitness recounted.

The accident reportedly occurred about 30 minutes from the examination centre, near Choba, a densely populated area that hosts the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).
Several other passengers sustained injuries in the crash and were immediately rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
Security operatives from the Choba Divisional Police Headquarters were deployed to the scene to manage traffic and restore order.
As of the time of filing this report, both the Rivers State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
The tragic loss has sparked grief among residents, highlighting growing concerns over road safety, especially for students commuting long distances during examinations.
