Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has named the five players from Mikel Arteta’s current squad he believes would break into the starting XI of the club’s famous Invincibles team.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former midfielder said he would swap several members of the 2003/04 side that went unbeaten for an entire Premier League season. Vieira chose goalkeeper David Raya, defender Jurrien Timber, centre-back Gabriel, winger Bukayo Saka, and midfielder Declan Rice as the modern stars worthy of a place in the historic lineup.
“If I had to swap some Invincibles with current stars, I’d put David Raya in goal over Jens Lehmann,” Vieira explained. “Jurrien Timber at right-back, I really like him. In central defense, I’d keep Sol Campbell but replace Kolo Toure with Gabriel.”

He added that Saka would take Freddie Ljungberg’s spot on the right wing, while Rice would come in for Gilberto Silva in midfield. Vieira was clear that Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, and Robert Pires would remain untouched in attack and on the left.
The Invincibles won the Premier League in 2003/04 without losing a single game, recording 26 wins and 12 draws to finish on 90 points. Vieira’s comments have sparked debate among Arsenal fans over how the current squad compares to Arsene Wenger’s legendary side.
