Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intercepted three disassembled canoes reportedly linked to notorious terrorist kingpin Shehu Bagewaye in Zamfara State.
The operation followed credible intelligence that Bagewaye had arranged for the procurement of the canoes from Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State for onward movement into Zamfara.
According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North West, Lt-Col Aliyu Danja, the canoes were allegedly intended to facilitate the movement of the terrorist group across riverine areas.

Danja said the intelligence indicated that the terrorists planned to use the canoes to overcome river obstacles that had been restricting their movements and improve their ability to carry out criminal activities against vulnerable communities.
Acting on the information, troops on August 23, 2026, conducted a covert operation along identified routes and successfully intercepted the three disassembled canoes while they were being transported towards their intended destination.
The individuals conveying the items reportedly abandoned them and fled after sighting the troops.
The recovered canoes have since been taken into military custody, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in their attempted movement.
The military operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt the activities and logistics networks of terrorists and other criminal elements operating across the North-West.
