The Enugu State Police Command has rescued three kidnap victims and recovered a stolen Lexus RX350, firearms, ammunition and other items following a swift operation against suspected kidnappers.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit with support from members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group and other community members.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, the police received credible intelligence at about 1:30 a.m. on August 18, 2026, regarding the carjacking and abduction of occupants of a Lexus RX350 in the Independence Layout area of Enugu.
The operatives, who were on crime-prevention patrol along the Port Harcourt Expressway, immediately launched a pursuit of the suspects.
The chase reportedly continued to Hillview Road, Independence Layout, where the fleeing suspects abandoned the vehicle and firearms before escaping.

The police said investigations have been intensified, with a manhunt launched to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the police operatives, community security personnel and residents for their prompt response.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible and timely information that could assist ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, car snatching and other violent crimes in the state.
