Security operatives in Zamfara State have arrested two suspects after intercepting 55 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition during a joint operation along the Anka–Bagega Road in Anka Local Government Area.
The suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search exercise carried out by a joint security team comprising the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Community Protection Guard (CPG).
According to the police, officers stopped a Volkswagen Golf III and recovered the ammunition concealed inside a polythene bag during a search of the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the ammunition belonged to one of the occupants, who allegedly admitted collecting it from a community in Kebbi State for delivery to another individual believed to be waiting in Zamfara.

Both suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Security authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down the alleged recipient and uncover other members of the network linked to the illegal movement of arms and ammunition.
The Zamfara State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal weapons, noting that intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies will continue across the state.
Residents were also urged to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and improve public safety.
